In pro basketball news, former LaCrosse-Central and Wisconsin Badger standout Johnny Davis is signing with Manisa Basket of Turkey. Davis was a first-team All-American during his senior season at Wisconsin, and was named Big Ten Player of the Year in 2022. He was chosen by Washington with the tenth overall pick of the 2022 draft, but averaged just four points per game in more than 100 games with the Wizards. He spent last season with the Bucks’ affiliate in the NBA-G League, the Wisconsin Herd, averaging 15 points per game. In addition, it appears that former Milwaukee high school standout Kevon Looney is heading toward free agency. The New Orleans Pelicans are expected to decline their $8,000,000 option on Looney for next season. Looney played high school basketball at Milwaukee-Hamilton. He played for Golden State for ten seasons, averaging five points per game primarily as a reserve. He signed with the Pelicans prior to last season and averaged three points and six rebounds per game in just 21 games. And, former Wisconsin Badger guard Chucky Hepburn will get another chance with the Toronto Raptors. Hepburn is signing a two-way qualifying offer with the Raptors, even though he played in only two games forToronto last season. Hepburn spent most of the season with Toronto’s team in the G-League, Raptors 905, and averaged 12 points and nine assists per game.
