The NCAA Division III track and field championships are now complete at UW-LaCrosse, and three  student-athletes from central Wisconsin competed.  In men’s competition on Saturday, Neillsville’s Jessie Fowler, competing for UW-Stout, finished 17-th in the hammer throw, with a throw of 55.35 meters, placing him about ten meters off the lead.  Two area athletes competed in the women’s competition.   In the women’s pole vault, Spencer’s Leah Zastrow, competing for UW-Stout, earned third place, with a vault of 13-feet-one-and-a-half inches.  That was six inches shy of the champion, Maddy Habberstad of UW-LaCrosse.  Leah won the Division III indoor title in the pole vault earlier this year.  In the women’s 400-hurdles, Marshfield’s Michaela Dick, running for UW-Eau Claire,  finished eleventh in the prelim round and did not qualify for Saturday’s final.  Michaela’s time was 1:01.85, and that was less than three-tenths of a second behind the final qualifier.   UW-LaCrosse won the national championship in the women’s meet, with Eau Claire seventh, and LaCrosse also won the men’s title, with Oshkosh third and Eau Claire fifth.
