The Abbotsford Merchants baseball team will play this week at the Wisconsin Baseball Association Class ‘B’ state tournament at Ellsworth. Abbotsford won two games at its own regional this weekend, defeating Bloomer 13-1 and beating New Richmond 7-2. The Pittsville River Bandits also played at the Abbotsford regional and lost two games, falling to Plum City 9-7 and to Chaseburg/Coon Valley 17-11. Joining Abbotsford at the Class ‘B’ state tournament are the Whittelsey Reds, Elmwood, Glidden, Osceola, Norwalk, Plum City and Whitehall.
Meanwhile, the Marshfield Chaparalls lost two games at the Class ‘A’ regional at Menomonie this weekend, losing to Jim Falls 6-2 and falling to LaCrescent 8-1. Marshfield will host the Class ‘A’ finals at Jack Hackman Field starting on Friday. That field includes the Wisconsin Rapids Redhawks, Everest Merchants, Cadott Red Sox, Osseo Merchants, River Falls, Tilden, Brill and LaCrescent.
