The Toronto Blue Jays are trading centerfielder and Marshfield native Daulton Varsho to Houston for pitcher Spencer Arrighetti. Daulton is in the final year of his contract, and is eligible for free agency at the end of this season. He is a former Gold Glove winner and considered one of the top defensive centerfielders in baseball. At the plate this season, Daulton is batting .243, with seven home runs and 26 rbis. He has hit 85 home runs over the previous four seasons, including 20 for Toronto last season. Daulton’s acquisition gives Houston a much-needed lefthanded bat, as Yordan Alvarez is the only other left-handed hitter in Houston’s every-day lineup. Daulton is playing this season on a one-year, $10,750,000 contract. Arrighetti is in his third major league season, and is 7-5 with a 4.60 ERA in 17 starts this season. He has not pitched since late June due to a nerve issue in his foot.
