The UW-Milwaukee baseball team will play this week in the NCAA Division I Regional at Auburn. The Panthers won the Horizon League tournament on Saturday, edging Wright State in the championship game 5-4, on a ninth inning two-run home run by Joey Spence. UWM is 25-21, and will now participate in the regional at Auburn starting on Friday. The Panthers play fourth-ranked Auburn in the first game Friday at 12:00. The other teams in that field are North Carolina State and Central Florida. That’s a double elimination tournament and will continue through the weekend. Meanwhile, the South Dakota State baseball team, featuring shortstop Keagen Jirschele of Mosinee, will play this week at the NCAA Division I regional at Lincoln, Nebraska. The Jackrabbits face the host Nebraska ballclub in the first game of the regional Friday afternoon at 3:00. The other teams in the regional at Mississippi and Arizona State, and they will meet Friday night at 8:00. It’s a double elimination tournament, and play will continue through the weekend. Nebraska goes into the regional ranked 13-th in the Division I baseball poll. The team that wins this regional will face the winner of the Auburn regional in the super-regional.
