Former Wisconsin Rapids Twins outfielder Joe Christian passed away last month at the age of 94. Christian began his pro baseball career in 1949, and played in the minor leagues for 17 seasons. He came to Wisconsin Rapids in 1964 and played in 45 games, batting .325 with seven home runs and 33 rbis. He played for eight different major league organizations and with 19 different minor league teams, but never advanced higher than ‘AAA’ baseball. He played in 1767 minor league games, and had a lifetime batting average of .302, with 157 home runs. Christian was a native of Moon Run, Pennsylvania. He retired from baseball following the 1966 season, and settled in Rochester, New York, where he managed a department store.
