Former Marquette AD Williams dies

By Gene DeLisio Oct 16, 2025 | 4:10 PM

Former Marquette Athletic Director Larry Williams passed away Thursday morning at the age of 62.  Williams was serving as Athletic Director at the University of San Francisco, and apparently suffered a heart-related incident on campus.  He joined the San Francisco staff in 2022, and previously worked at Marquette, Akron and Portland. Williams also played college football at Notre Dame, and played eight seasons in the NFL with Cleveland, New Orleans and New England.  Williams was named Marquette Athletic Director in 2011, and served in that role for two years.  He led Marquette’s transition into the re-figured Big East Conference, but apparently had differences with former men’s basketball coach Buzz Williams.
