The Marshfield Area Baseball and Softball Association will induct six new
members into it’s Hall of Fame this summer. This year’s group includes the
father-son combination of Al and Elliot Ashbeck, Marshfield Tiger softball
batterymates Megan Donahue and Emily Draeger; softball standout Todd
Howard; and former minor league baseball player Ray Helixon. Al Ashbeck
played on Auburndale High School’s state championship baseball team in
1970, and was a softball standout in central Wisconsin for many years.
His son Elliot played baseball for the Marshfield Tigers and Marshfield
American Legion, and then pitched for five seasons in the San Diego
Padres’ farm system. Donahue and Draeger pitched and caught for the
Marshfield Tigers between 2015 and 2018, and both went on the play college
softball. Howard played baseball for the Marshfield Tigers in the 1980’s,
and was later a men’s softball standout in central Wisconsin. Helixon
played sports at McKinley High School in Marshfield, and then played minor
league baseball, primarily in the St. Louis Cardinals’ organization,
between 1933 and 1939, hitting over .300 five times. In addition, the
Athens High School baseball program will be saluted for it’s many years of
success. This year’s induction ceremony will take place at the Rembs
Celebration Center in Marshfield on Saturday, August 9. Tickets for this
year’s event go on sale June 1.
