Some central Wisconsin high school players are candidates for post-season eight-man football awards from Wisconsin Sports Network. Owen-Withee running back Mason Gay is a finalist for the eight-man offensive player of the year award. Mason is averaging more than 12 yards per carry this season, as he has rushed for 1386 yards and 25 touchdowns. He also has more than 200 return yards this season. Mason's Owen-Withee teammate, Dominic Sherwood, is a finalist for eight-man defensive player of the year. Dominic leads the state with nine pass interceptions this season, returning one for a touchdown. He also has 89 tackles, five fumble recoveries and two forced fumbles. Gilman's Anthony Syryczuk is also a candidate for the defensive award. Syryczuk is a linebacker, and has 92 tackles and five sacks this season. Award winners will be announced after the eight-man championship game on Saturday between Owen-Withee and Lena/St. Thomas Aquinas.
