Former Wausau Lumberjacks catcher James Prendergast died last month at the age of 91. Prendergast was signed by the Cincinnati Reds in 1957, and assigned to their Wausau farmclub in the Class ‘C’ Northern League. He played ten games for the Lumberjacks, and hit .250 with two rbis, and was then transferred to the Reds’ Class ‘D’ farmclub in Bradford, Pennsylvania. He played minor league baseball through the 1959 season, but then gave up baseball and returned to his home in Missouri where he spent the rest of his life, primarily working for General Motors. Prendergast served in the Army for two years before beginning his baseball career.
