UW-LaCrosse has its new head football coach…that job goes to assistant Michael Zwiefel. Zweifel takes over for Matt Janus, who is taking the head coaching job at Division II Northern Michigan. Zweifel is a Whitewater native, who has assisted at LaCrosse for the last four seasons, primarily serving as defensive coordinator and defensive backs coach. He was a wide receiver at Dubuque, and was named the winner of the 2011 Gagliardi Trophy as the top football player in NCAA Division II, when he caught 140 passes for 1915 yards and 25 touchdowns. He finished his college football career as the all-time NCAA leader in pass receptions with 463. He returned to Dubuque in 2021 as receivers and quarterbacks coach. The LaCrosse football team was 8-3 last season, advancing to the Division III quarter-final round.
