Abbotsford native and former Marquette basketball standout Brian Brunkhorst passed away earlier this month at the age of 80. Brian grew up in Abbotsford and played basketball for the Dor-Abby boy’s basketball program, leading the team in scoring in both 1962 and 1963. He then went to Marquette, and played for coach Al McGuire., serving as a team captain, and leading the Warriors in rebounding in 1967. He played on the Marquette team that lost the NIT championship game to Walt Frazier and Southern Illinois in 1967. After graduation, Brian played briefly for the American Basketball Association Los Angeles Stars. He then returned to Milwaukee and invested in several businesses in the Milwaukee area. Brian was also involved in automobile racing, competing in races both in this country and in Europe.
