Longtime Marshfield teacher and coach Wayne Hamlin passed away last month at the age of 78.  Hamlin assisted coach Pete Kopplin for many years in the Marshfield Tiger girls softball program, serving as pitching coach on the Tiger state championship teams in 1991 and 1997.  He also taught English, primarily at Marshfield Middle School, working in the Marshfield district for 34 years.  Wayne was a native of Merrill, and a graduate of Tomahawk High School and UW-Stevens Point.  He lived for many years in Rhinelander after retiring from teaching, although he continued to work with softball pitchers in recent years.
