A former member of the Wisconsin Rapids White Sox passed away last month. Harry Wilson was 98 years old when he died on November 20. Wilson was 20-years old when came to Wisconsin Rapids to play for the White Sox in the Wisconsin State League in 1947. He hit .294 that season, with five home runs and 43 rbis in 108 games. Wilson hit .287 for the White Sox’ farmclub in Superior in 1948, but was severely injured in a car accident and enrolled at UW-Superior, where he received a degree in history and economics. After marrying, Wilson moved to Kaukauna and taught at Kaukauna High School for 34 years, while also coaching baseball and football. The 1947 Wisconsin Rapids White Sox finished last in the eight-team Wisconsin State League with a record of 41-83. The Sheboygan Indians won the league championship that season.
